Community Wellness Counsellor

Salary Range: $45,329.92 to $58,017.97 (Pending Education & Experience)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Community Wellness Counsellor (CWC) provides individual and group counselling to Batchewana First Nation (BFN) membership and community. The CWC will work with the Mental Wellness Team to alleviate trauma and its effects on individuals, families and community. Must have strong understanding of complex mental health, concurrent disorders, substance use, and expert knowledge of counselling modalities.

Driver (Education)

Salary Range: $17.14  to $  21.93 (Pending Experience)

POSITION SUMMARY

The School Driver will primarily be responsible for transporting students of various ages to and from the Batchewana Learning Centre (Glen Oaks) and their homes in a safe manner. This individual will be responsible for following established routes and ensuring the established schedule is followed so passengers arrive at their destination on time. The School Driver will maintain the health and safety of the students while transporting, loading and unloading the students, and ensure that all policies and procedures are followed while operating the vehicle.

Elementary School Counsellor

Salary Range: $36,263.94 to $46,414.38 (Pending Education & Experience)

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Education Director, this position will maintain and promote supportive relationships with students, parents, and community to ensure academic success and positive personal development by engaging with pre-school (Early ON, day cares, etc.), schools (teachers, principals, mental health workers, etc.), social service and indigenous agencies, and organizing and participating in educational events.

Maintenance Worker (O&M)

Salary Range: $ 31,186.99 to $39,916.36 (Pending Education & Experience)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing a variety of labour activities to ensure and maintain the efficient daily operation of the Public Works Department for the Batchewana First Nation.  The Worker is responsible for the maintenance of all reserve locations (Rankin 15D, Goulais Bay 15 A, Obadjiwon 15 E, Whitefish Island 15) under the direction of the Lead Hand for the following community services: fire protection, roads, water, sanitation, maintenance of all community buildings, public parks, public rinks and grounds. 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Completed a heavy equipment operating Certificate Program
  • 1-2 years of related experience

               

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledgeable about the cultures and the significant characteristics of the social structures of Batchewana First Nation
  • Knowledgeable about the Batchewana First Nation, it’s lands, policies, processes and procedures, communities and public services and scope of other Batchewana First Nation programs as they relate
  • Know and understand Batchewana First Nation’s Safety and Health Policies and Procedures and related Federal Legislation
  • Fire and building code knowledge
  • Knowledge of proper road condition work and repair
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, building codes, traffic codes, etc.
  • Knowledge and experience using hand and electrical tools
  • Prioritize, organize work in order to meet time requirements
  • Relate effectively to staff as a diplomatic and flexible team player
  • Work effectively with the management and staff of other programs/agencies

Principal

(Part-time 10 hours per week)

Salary Range: (Pending Education & Experience)

POSITION SUMMARY

 

The principal will report to and be under the authority of the Education Director or their designate.  Under that authority the principal will be responsible for all facets of the operation of the Batchewana Learning Center Program. The principal will direct and oversee the work of support staff including the teachers, the classroom support staff and the Administrative Assistant/School Secretary.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Education and applicable undergraduate degree
  • Principal’s Qualifications – Part I and Part II
  • 5 years of classroom teaching experience preferably within a First Nation or Indigenous organization

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and understanding of BFN’s policies and procedures as they related to the education department.
  • Knowledge of financial processes including planning, monitoring and administering budgets, financial reporting and financial management.
  • Knowledgeable of the human resources policies and processes, and how to best support employees on personnel related matters.
  • Knowledge of required computer programs including Microsoft Office, Zoom and other programs deemed necessary for this position by the First Nation.
  • Knowledge of the culture and traditions of BFN.
  • Knowledgeable of federal and provincial legislation, regulations and programs as they relate to First Nation education operation.
  • Knowledge of relevant school board systems.
